METAMORPHOSIS

I have been thinking about the glorious change that happens in a person's life when they become a Christian. The Bible declares in 2Co 5:17 - "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
In nature, there is a phenomenon known as METAMORPHOSIS. Scientists explain this incredible process thusly: Metamorphosis is a process in biology by which an individual physically develops after birth or hatching, and involves significant change in form as well as growth and differentiation. There are many examples, but the Monarch Butterfly is the classic. It's development progresses through three main stages. First is the egg; than the caterpillar; then the beautiful butterfly.
Here is the interesting reality to me: Although the Monarch proceeds through the various stages it never deviates from it's original purpose, which is to become a butterfly. It does not become a bug, an ant, a bee, or any other creature. It's metamorphosis has one purpose and one purpose only - that it finally becomes a beautiful butterfly.
Humanity's "metamorphosis" was corrupted by sin and the original purpose for man's existence was changed. As man went through the growth cycle, sin altered and marred his life to such a degree that he morphed into a completely different creature than was originally intended. He was intended to be a servant of God but became a servant of sin. He was intended to be holy, righteous and pure but became wicked, hateful and perverse.
Fortunately for us, God's work in our salvation is distinctly creative. He does not merely interrupt our "metamorphosis." He completely changes us from the creature we had become, as a result of sin, into a "New Creation." He re-establishes His original purpose for us and we become re-born sons and daughters of God.
The next time you see a beautiful Monarch butterfly remember that God has done something wonderful in your life. You have not simply gone through a series of changes - you have been re-born. You are a new creation.
Now .... FLY!! I pray the Lord blesses you today. Warmly, in His love and life, Roland Scroggins © 2006
